Every week, hundreds of students experience the love of Jesus through By the Book classes
Bringing
HOPE
and PURPOSE
to our public schools
WHO WE ARE
By the Book is a Gospel-centered weekday religious education program, funded by Associated Churches of Huntington County, dedicated to providing Bible education to public school students in grades 3-5.
Whether reading the Bible, acting out stories, singing songs, teaching children to pray, or memorizing verses, we aim to point students to God. Our mission is to bring hope and purpose to the lives of students and their families through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
WHAT WE DO
How do we teach the Bible during the school day? The 1952 U.S. Supreme Court decision Zorach v. Clauson determined that teaching the Bible during the public school day was legal in all 50 states under three conditions:
1
PRIVATELY
FUNDED
No government funds can be used for this program.
2
OFF SCHOOL
PROPERTY
Program must be held off-site of school premises.
3
PARENT
PERMITTED
Parental permission is required for child’s participation.
BEHIND THE
SCENES
WHY WE DO IT
We believe every student deserves to know they are uniquely created by God, with a meaningful purpose for their lives. Our hope is for each child to experience the joy of knowing and following Jesus.
Students Need the Word of God
The early years of a child’s life are crucial for shaping their faith and values. Research shows that by age 13, a child’s worldview is largely set, making it essential to introduce them to the truth of God’s love and the teachings of Jesus during these formative years. Early faith education can lay a lasting foundation that shapes their beliefs for a lifetime.
